Lard Yai (Sunday Walking Street)

Known locally as Lard Yai ('big market'), Phuket's Sunday Walking Street takes over Thalang Road in the Old Town every Sunday evening. The street was historically the island's main trading road, run by Chinese tin-mining families, and its Sino-Portuguese shophouses were restored and had their power lines buried underground starting in 2010. The weekly market began in late 2013, a community initiative to bring life back to the street after dark; it has since grown to spill onto neighboring Phang Nga Road, with stalls selling moo ping, oyster omelets, roti and other southern Thai street food.
