Esplanade de Fourvière

About
Set beside the Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière at 287 metres above the Saône, this terrace is generally rated Lyon's best viewpoint. A long orientation table helps identify the city's two rivers, the Presqu'île and Croix-Rousse below, and on clear days the Alps and Mont Blanc on the horizon. The esplanade draws a steady stream of visitors who arrive via the Fourvière funicular from Vieux Lyon, and it gets especially crowded around sunset when the basilica's stonework catches the light.
